The DVC History

A few years ago in a rainy city called Vancouver, Dylan Couper got bored.

A veteran of 24 and 48 hour short film competitions, and a commercial/documentary director, Dylan was inspired to get back into the creative elements of indie filmmaking. He logged on to www.dvinfo.net/conf, his home away from home, and offered a little challenge to some of his video friends around the world.

"Look, here's the deal. This weekend, we'll all make a short film, say 3 minutes long, just for fun."

There were no crazy rules, no strange hoops to jump through, just a one word theme, and a common motivation for everyone to get off their collective asses and get out doing what they love, making films.

And thus it began with five films, as a simple challenge amongst friends.

Several years later, The DV Challenge is still run from its home at DVinfo.net, except now there are usually 50-100 people signing up for every contest, 30-40 completed entries, thousands of viewers at home, tens of thousands on Youtube, and all for free.

So what is the future of The DV Challenge?
It is a contest of the people, for the people.
The future will be what we make it.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in it and been involved along the way!
